Morgan Stanley Hungary - Attila Tiszai, Managing Director, Risk Management

1.Why do you think membership in the American Chamber of Commerce is important for businesses operating in Hungary?

AmCham provides something individual businesses cannot easily create on their own: a platform where different perspectives can become a credible collective voice. Companies may represent different sectors and priorities, but many of the issues affecting their success in Hungary are shared, including predictability, access to talent, innovation and the overall competitiveness of the business environment.

I particularly value AmCham's ability to bring together businesses, policymakers and other stakeholders in constructive dialogue. Its mission of representing its membership while being a trusted partner in strengthening Hungary's competitiveness reflects what I believe a chamber should do: not simply represent individual interests, but combine experience and expertise to identify common ground and turn it into practical advocacy.

2. What motivates you to be an AmCham Board Member?

Having spent a significant part of my career in Hungary, I have developed a strong personal interest in the country's long-term competitiveness and its ability to attract, develop and retain businesses and talent. After many years of leadership within a global organisation, I would like to contribute some of that experience beyond the boundaries of my own firm and to the wider business community of which we are part.

I am particularly interested in contributing to AmCham's work around an attractive business environment, technology and AI, and the skills Hungary will need for the future. I also see Board membership as an opportunity to listen and learn. My international experience has taught me that no organisation, industry or leader has all the answers, and that better outcomes emerge when different perspectives are genuinely considered.

3. Why do you feel you are qualified? What skills do you bring to the position?

Throughout my career at Morgan Stanley, three principles have shaped the way I work and lead: Rigor, Humility and Partnership. I believe they are equally relevant to how I would contribute to the AmCham Board.

My background in risk management has taught me to start with facts, challenge assumptions and consider the longer-term consequences of decisions. Good risk management is not about avoiding risk, but understanding it well enough to make better decisions and enable sustainable growth. Having lived in different countries and worked across cultures and markets has also taught me the importance of humility, listening and adapting global experience to local realities.

Finally, partnership has been fundamental throughout my career. As a Managing Director in a complex multinational organisation, much of my role involves bringing together people with different expertise and priorities and finding a way forward. I would bring that same combination of judgement, international perspective and collaborative leadership to AmCham, together with a genuine commitment to Hungary's long-term competitiveness.

4. How have you been active in AmCham over the course of the last two years?

As a senior leader of an AmCham member company, I have participated in several events, including an AmCham Insight event and the Equilibrium Institute’s annual macroeconomic outlook, hosted in recent years by Morgan Stanley’s Budapest office. I am keen to become more actively involved and dedicate more of my time, judgement and energy to AmCham’s mission and its impact for members and the wider business community.
