On Wednesday, April 29, the Sustainable Growth Committee discussed the upcoming implementation of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation in Europe and Hungary, and what the new rules will mean for companies, regulators, consumers, and the wider waste management ecosystem.
The discussion covered key requirements, including waste reduction targets, recyclable packaging categories, ecodesign, labelling, reuse, and refill obligations, EPR modulation, and the growing need for recycled and recyclable materials. Speakers emphasized that packaging is part of a complex value chain, where meaningful progress will require cooperation, investment in modern sorting and recycling technologies, and a careful balance between environmental goals and economic realities. Thank you to our speakers, Tivadar Runtág from MOHU-MOL Hulladékgazdálkodási Zrt., Judit Szalóky Tóth from The Coca-Cola Company, Ágnes Zoller from ExxonMobil, Ákos Lukács and Anna Fidloczky from EY, and József Bőhm from KOSTAL Group, for sharing their insights and practical perspectives.
