Preparing for a Return to the Office Environment

As we begin visualizing life after COVID-19, we must think about how we will adjust in the workplace. That is why AmCham’s Workspace and Facilities Management Committee discussed this topic in its online meeting.

Cushman & Wakefield presented their concept of „6 feet office”, since the rule of physical distancing need to be applied in the offices as well. They highlighted the following preventive measures:

  • Prepare the building (cleaning plans, pre-return inspections);
  • Prepare the workforce (decide who returns when);
  • Conrol access (protocols for health checks, visitor policies, plastic panels for separation);
  • Create a social distancing plan (decrease density, create route plan in the offcie);
  • Reduce touch points & increase cleaning (touchless doors, cleaning common areas);
  • Communicate for confidence (communicate transparently and listen to employees’ concerns)

HB Reavis outlined their strategy about returning to the office, emphasizing the use of smart technologies.

The members of the Committee agreed that one of the major challenges will be the use of common areas, especially the kitchen and the cafeteria. The next meeting shall address these questions as well. In the meantime, we encourage all interested members to contact AmCham’s Policy Officer, József Gál (jozsef.gal [at] amcham.hu) and share best practices regarding the topic, so that it can be communicated to our members.
