How to effectively manage cultural change? –Closing session of AmCham HR Masterclass 2023

We organized the fifth closing session of our HR Masterclass on May 11. Participants in the framework of a workshop were given the opportunity to apply in practice the lessons covered at the previous four sessions. They also learned about how to design and manage cultural change based on behavioral science and how to apply it to a relevant situation in their team or organization.

Company culture is represented by company values. Those values should not only be understood but should be also reflected in employees’ everyday decisions and behaviors. This objective, however, in many cases, can only be achieved through cultural change, including important behavioral aspects.

At the workshop held by Dr. Róbert Dobay, AmCham HR Committee Chair (Menedzsmentor), we therefore selected core values of the participants’ companies that we first analyzed, and secondly, implemented a systematic behavioral design process to study how they can be presented in daily work.

As employee engagement is essential also to cultural change, we reviewed its main factors based on Gallup's Research. Based on the employee engagement survey, there are 12 employee needs which show the strongest correlation to engagement and high-performing work environment. These needs can be grouped into four main categories, which, in order of importance, are the following:  basic – and individual needs, teamwork, and growth. Considering these needs and responding to them can bring a significant contribution to a successful engagement strategy, essential for a thriving company culture.
