Digital Working Group Meeting: From Cloud Hype To Factory Reality

On January 29, AmCham’s Digital Working Group organized an open meeting focused on edge computing and its growing relevance in industrial and enterprise IT environments. Drawing on insights from Ferenc Kiss (ROSI Systems), Ferenc Pál (IBM), and Tibor Katona (Nestlé Purina), the discussion highlighted what edge computing means in practice and why, after years of cloud-first thinking, many companies are returning to local or hybrid infrastructures.

The guest experts also addressed how Industry 4.0, IoT, growing data volumes and AI are reshaping IT requirements in production environments, which differ significantly from traditional business and administrative IT. The conversation covered key considerations behind on-premise, cloud, and hybrid solutions, including latency, uptime, offline capability, and IP protection. It also addressed efficient data processing and the importance of well-structured data flows between the factory floor, IT, and business decision-makers.
