DEI&B Working Group Meeting - Shifting Focus from Diversity to Inclusivity

The DEI&B Committee met on June 24 to explore how companies are reshaping their diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging strategies in light of recent geopolitical shifts and evolving global business trends.

Guest speaker Julia Peterson, People Consulting Partner at EY Hungary, shared insights and international data showing that although approaches are adapting, diversity continues to be a vital business asset—contributing to stronger performance, talent retention, and effective market entry. She also stated that inclusive leadership is imperative to unlock the full potential of DEI, in defining how it is implemented and how it can reach employees at all levels.

Ms. Peterson also highlighted that the definition of diversity is broadening beyond traditional areas like generational and skill-based differences, now extending to topics such as supply chain diversification and social mobility—an emerging focus within DEI. She described social mobility as the effort to widen access to opportunity regardless of socioeconomic background, for example by adopting more inclusive recruitment practices or supporting “new-collar” workers.
