CMS Hungary appoints new Dispute Resolution partner

CMS Hungary is pleased to announce the appointment of Péter Bibók as a partner in the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice in Budapest, effective 1 April 2026. In his new role as partner, Péter will focus on banking and technology disputes, drawing on his extensive experience in both sectors.

Péter joined CMS Budapest in 2010 and has built a strong reputation advising clients on complex international arbitration and litigation, alongside insolvency, enforcement and customs proceedings. He has also developed significant experience in software- and IP-related arbitration and litigation, and aviation matters.

Before joining the Budapest Dispute Resolution practice, Péter was a member of the firm’s Banking team, having started as a paralegal. This background equipped him with a deep understanding of the financial markets and banking sector, which remains invaluable in handling disputes in these areas.

Erika Papp, Managing Partner at CMS Budapest and Head of Finance CEE, said: “Banking and technology clients are a core part of our business and rely on CMS for full-service support, including disputes. Péter’s promotion reflects the strength of our Dispute Resolution practice and rising demand from these sectors. He brings outstanding judgement, calm leadership and a collaborative style, and we are delighted to welcome him to the partnership as we further strengthen our banking and technology disputes offering.”

Zsolt Okányi, Head of CMS Budapest’s Dispute Resolution practice and the firm’s Head of Disputes for Central and Eastern Europe, comments: "Our Dispute Resolution practice in Budapest is experiencing a period of remarkable growth. With more than 350 active disputes valued in excess of billions of euros, the scale and complexity of the matters we handle demand a team of exceptional depth and capability. Péter's promotion to the partnership is a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding contributions and a strategic step that strengthens our capacity to meet the increasing demands of our clients. His elevation enables us to share the workload more effectively across our expanding team and ensures that we continue to deliver the responsive, high-calibre service on which our clients have come to rely."

Péter Bibók said: “I am very proud to have spent my entire career at CMS – starting here as a trainee lawyer and now stepping into the partnership, which is a truly rewarding progression. It’s been a wonderful journey of growth alongside exceptional colleagues and clients, and I look forward to continuing to work closely with Zsolt as we further strengthen our Dispute Resolution practice with enhanced focus on banking and IT disputes.”

Péter’s promotion is part of CMS's annual global round of partner promotions, with a total of 54 new partners. The new partners are based in 29 cities in 21 countries around the world, reflecting the firm's international strength and depth. Women account for 52% of global promotions.
