Becoming AI Competitive & Compliant: AmCham - EY meeting initiated by AmCham’s new Digital Working Group

On March 25, AmCham, in cooperation with EY, hosted a highly informative meeting to discuss the upcoming AI Act and its implications. The event featured distinguished guest experts Dr. George Tilesch, Chief AI Expert at EY AI Confidence, Dr. Adrienn Piskóti, Senior Lawyer, EY Law, responsible for data protection and digital law, and Áron Badinszky, AI Regulatory Expert, who provided an overview of the AI Act regulation, along with the challenges, obligations, and opportunities it presents for businesses.

The discussion highlighted key compliance deadlines, starting with February 2, 2025, when AI Act prohibitions and AI literacy obligations took effect. This initial phase requires companies to assess and certify their AI systems to meet foundational compliance standards, particularly focusing on safe and responsible use of AI.

Although the AI Act still requires further elaboration, particularly regarding the Code of Practice, companies should not delay their preparations for the next critical deadline: August 2, 2026. By this date, the Act will fully apply to high-risk AI systems, requiring organizations to implement comprehensive risk management, monitoring, and governance practices. To ensure sustainable, competitive business operations in the long term, companies must embed AI solutions as a fundamental part of their “company DNA”.

The experts also addressed relevant Hungarian legal implications, emphasizing the importance of staying up-to-date with local regulatory requirements to avoid potential legal risks. Non-compliance could result in substantial penalties, including financial fines, reputational harm, and operational limitations. The discussion concluded that successful adaptation requires collaboration between legal, technological, and business experts to navigate the complexities of the AI regulatory landscape.

At AmCham, we believe staying at the forefront of technological innovation is key to competitiveness. Our Digitalization Working Group, led by Imre Somogyi, CEO of Attrecto, is committed to exploring innovative solutions, with AI high on the group’s agenda. Stay tuned for more updates.
