On June 16, AmCham, in collaboration with Wolf Theiss, hosted a workshop on the practical implications of the new EU Pay Transparency Directive, following an earlier seminar on the topic.
The event began with presentations by Barnabás Buzási, Counsel, and Marietta Molnár, Senior Associate at Wolf Theiss, who outlined key elements of the directive. This was followed by an interactive exercise, where participants were asked to classify various professions based on pay transparency criteria.
The workshop highlighted that when comparing two roles, employers must:
- Apply a gender-neutral evaluation framework
- Use objective, consistent criteria across all four evaluation factors (Skill, Effort, Responsibility, and Working conditions)
- Document and justify the comparisons to ensure transparency and reduce the risk of discrimination claims
This type of evaluation system is essential for preventing gender-based pay discrimination. Additionally, rather than relying on traditional perceptions of job value, employers are encouraged to assess the actual worth of the work, supporting the creation of a fair and transparent compensation structure.
