Global Outlook Series - U.S. Midterm Elections

START OF EVENT

As the U.S. heads toward the midterm elections, what could the results mean for American politics, the economy, and U.S. foreign policy? Péter Marton, Associate Professor in the Department of International Relations at Corvinus University will provide an expert perspective on what lies ahead.

The talk will examine the international dimensions and implications of the U.S. midterm elections. The growing polarization of U.S. politics, combined with the predominantly domestic framing of U.S. elections in the U.S. media, creates non-negligible scope for uncertainty, misperception, and miscalculation among international actors. At the same time, the outcome of the elections is widely perceived — whether or not such perceptions are justified — as having potentially far-reaching consequences for international politics, from the NATO Alliance and the domestic politics of other countries to the dynamics of major conflicts around the world.
