Citi Hungary - Zoltán Schwardy, Country Officer and Banking Head
1.Why do you think membership in the American Chamber of Commerce is important for businesses operating in Hungary?
AmCham plays an important role in strengthening Hungary’s business environment by bringing together companies, policymakers and industry leaders around shared priorities. AmCham provides a valuable platform for advocacy, dialogue and knowledge sharing, enabling members to contribute to discussions that support competitiveness, innovation and sustainable economic growth.
2. What motivates you to be an AmCham Board Member?
Having recently taken on the role of Country Officer and Business Head for Citi Hungary, I am keen to contribute more actively to the business community. Throughout my career across EMEA, I have seen firsthand the value of strong collaboration between businesses and public stakeholders – and I am keen to leverage my international experience to contribute to Hungary's long-term competitiveness and attractiveness as an investment destination.
3. Why do you feel you are qualified? What skills do you bring to the position?
I oversee a franchise that combines a leading banking business with one of Hungary's largest international business service centers. Our Budapest-based teams support Citi's global activities across a broad range of functions, giving me daily exposure to the priorities of a highly diverse, multinational workforce and the evolving needs of global businesses. Through my ongoing dialogue with clients across industries, I also gain firsthand insight into the opportunities and challenges shaping investment, innovation, digitalization and talent development. This combination of perspectives gives me a practical understanding of what businesses need to grow, compete and invest successfully in Hungary, while contributing the global outlook and collaborative approach that are central to Citi's culture.
4. How have you been active in AmCham over the course of the last two years?
Following 20 years of working in international markets, I have returned to Hungary to lead Citi’s local franchise. One of my first external engagements in this role was to meet Amcham senior management. I familiarized myself with key upcoming events, meet members and define how I could be integral part of the business community. I am now in a position to dedicate time and energy coupled with international insights to the AmCham board. I see this nomination as a perfect opportunity to utilze my international experience in the interest of developing and promoting Hungarian businesses.
