High powered offenses. Raucous home crowds. Legends of the game and rising stars. Are we about to witness the passing of the torch? One thing is for sure, we're set for what might be the most exciting conference championship Sunday in league history. The Drew Brees led New Orleans Saints survived the initial shock and came back from a 14-point deficit to defeat the depleted Philadelphia Eagles to reach the NFC Championship game where they are facing the Los Angeles Rams who simply battered the Dallas Cowboys in the Coliseum.
Playing against an in-form Saints team on the road is a mighty task. Ask the Rams who got a pretty good lesson early November when Brees and the high-powered offense amassed 487 total yards and handed them their first loss of the season. If that is not enough, New Orleans has never lost at home in the playoffs with Sean Payton at the helm and #9 at quarterback. If Jared Goff can handle the pressure; however, this Rams team has what it takes to break that record.
If there was any debate about the New England Patriots, this weekend's divisional round against the Los Angeles Chargers definitely put an end to it. After surgically dismantling the Bolts, Brady and co. will travel to Kansas City to clash with the Patrick Mahomes and the electrifying Chiefs in the battle of the old guard versus the new era.
The Patriots have a lot to prove in their 8th straight AFC Championship game. In week 4, the Chiefs handed Belichick one of the worst losses of his career in a 41-14 rout which led to concerns whether Brady was past his prime. Kansas City; however, has a solid chance for a statement win and a subsequent SuperBowl appearance behind Patrick Mahomes' stellar MVP calibre season and a defense which seems to have awaken at the perfect time.
For the first time since the merger in 1970, the four highest-scoring teams in the league reached Conference Championship weekend. Las Vegas projects close, high-scoring games, all we have to do is enjoy the spectacles.
