6.2 millon HUF raised to help children in need at annual Thanksgiving Charity Dinner

  • November 28, 2019
Roasted turkey dripping in gravy and cranberry sauce, finger-licking good chicken, homemade oak-smoked salmon, a pumpkin pie to live for and a great community. That is the recipe for an amazing Thanksgiving Charity Dinner where AmCham members raised 6.2 million HUF to support children in need.

As per tradition, AmCham and Budapest Marriott Hotel teamed up on Thanksgiving to support the work of the AmCham Foundation and the SOS Children's Villages

William Benkő, former AmCham president, the traditional host of the evening started us off by talking about the history and the spirit of Thanksgiving with some of the guests. This special holiday is a time for togetherness and gratitude. It is a moment to reflect, think about family, friends and the community and help the less fortunate.

In short films, the board members and the volunteers of ACF gave us a glimpse into the organization's three-decade-long history of volunteering and we learned about the foster parents of the SOS Children's Villages Foundation.

Before the roasted turkey was carved up, Viktor Király treated the crowd to a performance, starting with his hit song, 'Solo'.

Thanks to our wonderful donors, guests had the opportunity to bid on over 50 items, from LEGOs, luxurious cosmetics to gadgets, restaurant vouchers and accommodation from five-star hotels around the world at the silent auction. As always, the raffle was one of the highlights of the evening. Patrons purchased hundreds of tickets to get a chance to win amazing weekend getaways, motorboat sightseeing on the Danube, gadgets, high-end fitness membership, autographed Formula One items and the main prize, a roundtrip to New York City for two by LOT Polish Airlines.

As always the mixers of TGI Fridays paired the delicious meal with the most tempting cocktails and guests absolutely loved taking pictures at the Selfie Me photo station.

Of course, we had some surprises for the little ones too.

Volunteers of the SOS Children's Villages and the AmCham Charity Foundation entertained the children with arts and crafts, face painting, Thanksgiving-themed games and we brought plenty of toys as well, but at the end of the day, Santa Claus stole the limelight once again bringing every little one a gift..

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all our wonderful partners and donors for their support to make this evening even more remarkable.
