Free flow of cross-border data

  • June 13, 2018
In early June, AmCham Hungary sent its position to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Affairs advocating that the EU’s future free trade agreements shall support the free flow of data between the EU and non-EU countries to the highest possible degree.

As per the request of the Ministry, AmCham collected membership input regarding the importance of free cross-border data flow onto business operation. Company input re-confirmed AmCham’s 16th point  - that was published previously as part of the „Cooperation for a More Competitive Hungary” package – in which AmCham recommends the responsible implementation of the EU’s new general data protection regulation (GDPR) with special regard to the aspects of competitiveness. The AmCham position confirms that business shares the objective of safegurding privacy and data protection. We also believe that for the competitiveness of the digital European Union and Hungarian economy, it is key that through future trade agreements the EU facilitates cross-border data flow between the EU and non EU countries to the highest possible degree.
