BUDAPEST – Citi was recently recognized as the CEE region’s Best Bank for Advisory by Euromoney in its 2020 Awards for Excellence.

Held annually, Euromoney’s Awards for Excellence are regarded as one of the most prestigious award programs in the financial services industry.

The award recognizes the strength of Citi’s investment banking, capital markets and advisory division, its ability to structure complex financing packages as well as the quality of its M&A advisory capabilities.

‘Citi dominated Dealogic’s league tables for the 12 months to the end of March 2020, acting on 17 deals worth $17.7 billion, versus just $9.5 billion for its nearest rival. The tally included the largest acquisition in the history of Russian retail, the largest Chinese investment in Turkish infrastructure and a series of ground-breaking transactions in central and southeastern Europe’, Euromoney noted.

Commenting on the award, Theo Giatrakos, Citi’s Head of Investment Banking Central and Southeast Europe, said that: ‘This important recognition for Citi as the Best Advisory Bank for the region underlines the strength of our M&A franchise and the deep strategic trust  that our Clients honor us with. We are very excited with the current investment environment in the region and we look forward to continuing deal momentum, with a focus on technology, sustainable growth and global expansion of our regional champions’.

‘This award is a great testament of Citi’s connectivity between its local client coverage, global industry expertise and advisory capabilities. The combination of these features allows us to connect the region’s most demanding companies to the market place of international opportunities, and to support our clients to realize their strategic growth ambitions.’ said Laszlo Toth, Head of Banking and Global Subsidiaries Group Hungary, Western Balkan, Baltics and Belarus.
