SOS Children's Villages
In the SOS Children's Villages, 80 people work to provide a stable, safe and loving home to children whose parents are unable to take care of them. Marika is one of these volunteers. With his husband, Karcsi, they raised more than 30 kids and are now caring for four.
Most of the children the organization encounters are the victims of abuse, neglect or the addictions of their parents. Educators, psychologists and other professionals assist the foster parents with helping the children overcome their struggles and process the traumas of the past.
Currently 400 children reside in the SOS Children's Villages.
The four little ones living with Marika have the start over with a clean slate with foundation's support.
"I am a rich and happy person because of these precious children who gave me so much... that is worth a lot more than gold" - says Marika.
SOS Children's Villages is now looking for a "foster parent" for Marika's house to secure the a safe future for four little kids and their mother.
Almost every culture in the world has held celebrations of thanks for a plentiful harvest. The American Thanksgiving holiday began as a feast of thanksgiving in the early days of the American colonies almost four hundred years ago. Thanksgiving is a time for tradition and sharing. Even if they live far away, family members gather for a reunion at the house of an older relative. All give thanks together for the good things that they have. In this spirit of sharing, civic groups and charitable organizations offer a traditional meal to those in need, particularly the homeless. On most tables throughout the United States, foods eaten at the first thanksgiving have become traditional.
