The results of a comprehensive regional study indicate that Hungary is the third most competitive state amongst the “New Europe” countries. In the development indicators, the Czech Republic and Slovenia came out ahead of Hungary in infrastructure, education, and innovation and research.
In a survey of high-ranking and corporate decision-makers, the most common identified concepts were competitiveness, trust, structural reforms, innovation and R&D, and the capacity for change.
Slovenia was first in regard to pursuing the above ideas. For example, R&D expenditures make up an extremely high proportion of its GDP (1.86%), as compared to Romania (0.47%) who has the lowest such expenditures in the region, in addition to further large disparities in economic growth, free enterprise, and macroeconomic stability.
The subjects studied in the blog published by GEforCEE further include Croatia, Slovakia, and Poland, who all performed worse than Hungary.
